Award Week: A Spotlight on Children's Literature

The award is presented in Stockholm when Sweden is at its most beautiful.

In late Spring, the award winner visits Sweden and Europe for a one week programme of seminars, work-shops, and meetings. Audiences include colleagues, children and promoters of reading, as well as politicians and journalists. Also, the Award Week gives the general public a chance to get better acquainted with the work of the winner.

The aim is to give a well-rounded presentation of the winner's oeuvre and contribution to the advancement of children's literature. And of course, to acknowledge the importance of children's reading, and to spot-light creating for children as an art-form.

The week includes the Award Ceremony, a major celebration of children's literature, with the Swedish Minister for Culture in attendance, and participation by H.R.H. Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden.

The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award would like to thank our partners and sponsors: Mediatec, Stockholm Concert Hall, Stockholm House of Culture, Skansen, Arctic Paper, Hotel Skeppsholmen and BMW Sweden.
