Something New

It was something completely new and exciting that happened, in the spring of 2003. The world's largest children's literature award was presented for the very first time.

Christine Nöstlinger and Maurice Sendak are two giants in the world of children's art and literature. Their distinctive voices have helped to shape modern fiction for young readers. Their authorships and illustrations respectively were honoured at the Award Ceremony at the Stockholm open-air museum Skansen. Both the Minister for Culture, and the Prime Minister were present to pay their respects to the Award recipients, in the prescence of H.R.H. Crown Princess Victoria.

Maurice Sendak, who is still hard at work, could not be attend the ceremony as he was putting the finishing touches to his great children's opera about the Holocaust. He was represented by a friend who conveyed his deeply felt appreciation and thanks.
