Lygia Bojunga met Swedish pupils at the House of Culture

Pupils from five Swedish schools have since the prize winner announcement in March read and worked with Lygia Bojunga's books. Ms Bojunga was invited to meet the pupils and see them make different presentations based on the reading of her books at the House of Culture in Stockholm on 26 May.

The pupils had also made drawings to Mrs Bojunga, drawings that were also shown to the public in a special exhibition at the House of Culture. Lygia Bojunga was very moved by the meeting with the children who were very happy to meet her and to listen her read from her book Tchau.

The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA) is the world's largest prize for children's and young adult literature. The award, which amounts to SEK 5 million, is awarded annually to a single recipient or to several. Authors, illustrators, oral storytellers and those active in reading promotion may be rewarded. The award is designed to promote interest in children's and young adult literature, and in children's rights, globally. An expert jury selects the winners from candidates nominated by institutions and organisations worldwide. The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award is administered by the Swedish Arts Council.
