Award Week 2010

The Award Week May 23 - June 1 will give audiences a chance to meet Kitty Crowther and learn more about her work. Events in the programme will be added continously: please check back with us for more information!

The purpose of the Award Week is to give a wide and varied audience the chance to dig deeper into the work and world of Kitty Crowther. Also, the Award Week spotlights the importance of children's literature of the highest quality.

Aside from the press, Kitty Crowther will meet politicians, children, teachers, artists and authors. Most of the programme takes place in Stockholm, but she also visits Münich, Vimmerby and Lund.

The Award Week closes with the Award Ceremony at the Stockholm Concert Hall, where H.M. Queen Silvia will present the award, in the presence of Minister for Culture Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth.

The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA) is the world's largest prize for children's and young adult literature. The award, which amounts to SEK 5 million, is awarded annually to a single recipient or to several. Authors, illustrators, oral storytellers and those active in reading promotion may be rewarded. The award is designed to promote interest in children's and young adult literature, and in children's rights, globally. An expert jury selects the winners from candidates nominated by institutions and organisations worldwide. The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award is administered by the Swedish Arts Council, and was founded by the Swedish government in 2002.
