Award Winners

The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award rewards children's and young adult literature in the broadest sense. Authors, illustrators, oral storytellers and promoters of reading are eligible

Every year one or more individuals or organisations receives the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award. The award total is 5 million SEK yearly, which translates into approximately 450 000 EURO or 480 000 USD.

Nominees from all over the world are eligible. Recipients do not need to be translated, and such considerations as previous awards or sales are not a factor. The important thing is that their work is of the highest quality, and in the spirit of Astrid Lindgren.

The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award rewards lifetime achievments. In the case of authors, illustrators and oral storytellers this means an oeuvre of a consistently high artistic quality. When it comes to organisations and individual promoters of reading, the jury judges long-term sustainable work as opposed to short span projects.

The award is not given posthumously.
