MainIntro
MainBody The nominating groups must have extensive and in-depth knowledge of children’s and youth literature. Every country in the world may make a nomination in order to promote their children’s and youth literature and their efforts to stimulate reading. The jury also has the right to suggest candidates. No groups or individuals may apply for the prize or nominate themselves.

How are the nomination bodies selected?

The jury has selected organisations and institutions with good overviews of authors, illustrators, storytellers and activities that encourage reading in their countries or regions. Nominating bodies can be international, national and regional groups such as organisations and research institutes connected to children’s and youth literature and projects to encourage reading. Examples include children’s book institutes, author and illustrator organisations, children’s departments and literary centres at national libraries, and previous prize winners. In those countries that do not have such groups, culture ministries or their equivalents are invited to make nominations.

Review of the list of the nominating bodies

At least six months before the current nomination period expires, the jury will decide which nominating bodies will have the right to take part in the following round of nominations. This is done by reviewing the list of nominating groups and expanding upon it. The award office welcomes suggestions for additional qualified nominating bodies.
