The announcement is getting closer

On Tuesday March 29th the recipient or recipients of the 2011 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award will be announced. This is done traditionally at Astrid Lindgrens Näs, the birthplace of Astrid Lindgren. The announcement is also broadcasted live to the international Bologna Children’s Fair in Italy.

This year 175 candidates from 62 countries world-wide are nominated.

The jury will reach their final decision in the morning of March 29th. At 13.00 CET the Chairman of the jury, Mr Larry Lempert, will announce the recipient or recipients. The announcement will be followed by a presentation of the recipient by one of the members of the jury.

The announcement and the following presentation may be followed live here on www.alma.se /en starting 12.50 CET. The prestentation will have subtitels in English.

The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA) is the world's largest prize for children's and young adult literature. The award, which amounts to SEK 5 million, is awarded annually to a single recipient or to several. Authors, illustrators, oral storytellers and those active in reading promotion may be rewarded. The award is designed to promote interest in children's and young adult literature, and in children's rights, globally. An expert jury selects the winners from candidates nominated by institutions and organisations worldwide. The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award is administered by the Swedish Arts Council, and was founded by the Swedish government in 2002.
